Noted in Style expands

29 March 2018

A Folkestone based producer of premium customised and branded products has expanded into new premises on the Shearway Business Park. Having started just six years ago the company has had impressive growth and now exports all over the world with clients as far afield as New Zealand, including a large number of global brands such as HSBC, Facebook and BAFTA.

In 2010 Gerald Glover, who was running his own design agency, presented some debossed pocket Moleskine notebooks to his clients. Afterwards he mentioned them on his blog and was inundated with positive feedback and people asking where he got them from. His partner Laura Turner saw the business opportunity and seized it. With a combination of Laura’s business acumen and great organisation and Gerald’s graphic design skills and branding experience the new business grew from a cottage industry run by Laura at home to a business currently employing 12 people and turning over six figures.

The company specialises in customised and branded notebooks, luxury bespoke packaging, diaries and pens mainly for the events and corporate market. These products include branded Moleskine items along with other premium brands such as Leuchtturm1917, Castelli, Parker and Lamy.

The business initially expanded into a rented unit on the Shearway business park but as the company grew they needed new premises and with support from Barclays have now purchased a larger unit in the same park.

With all the design and the majority of the products handcrafted 'in house' it allows the business to ensure great quality control. They can thereby deliver the highest standards to their client base, which include high profile international companies such as Adidas, as well as many smaller clients.

The new larger premises will allow the company to add more equipment so that more of the production can be done on site. There are also plans to take on additional staff to provide more capacity in the business.

Laura Turner said: “As the business continues to grow it is important to us that the principles the company was founded on remain. Our fundamental business proposition is to provide excellent quality products alongside fantastic customer service. The key to our growth has been our commitment to the company values - Be Exciting; Be Creative; Be Passionate and Have Integrity. The new premises provide great opportunities for growth and we have ambitious plans to grow our export market”.

John Magullion, Barclays Business Manager, who put the funding in place, said: “We’re pleased to have been able to support Noted in Style in securing their new premises and we’re very proud to be associated with the next stage of their ambitious growth plans. Noted in Style has a strong position in a niche market and this is a great opportunity for growth to maximise the potential the business has to grow its customer base across the world, which has to be good news for the business and the local economy.”

The company have expressed their gratitude to John for his help and ongoing support throughout the process.

Laura Turner said: "John was hugely positive and helpful from the moment we met him. Throughout the application process his communication with us was great, always keeping us updated. He was on-hand to help with issues and returned calls extremely promptly. You could tell he really cared about making the process easy for us and providing a good service - everything that most banks are missing these days. We feel very confident having him as our local contact who we can call at any time. We really appreciate Barclays help to buy our first premises.”
