Chinese wholesale business moves to 60,000 sq. ft. premises

A Birmingham-based wholesaler of Chinese food products has purchased new premises with the support of Barclays, resulting in the creation of new jobs within the City.

New Harvest Wholesale Ltd has purchased the 60,000 square foot site on Cheston Road, Birmingham. The business provides daily deliveries to hundreds of Chinese takeaways and restaurants around the country.

The business was purchased by Director Ben Luk in 2013 who seized the opportunity to grow the business by increasing stock levels and identifying new customers. This year the company intends to reach a turnover of around £8 million and has an ambitious three-year plan to increase this.

Commenting on the move, Director Ben Luk said: “Our business previously operated from two leasehold premises in the City, but due to rapid business growth we were facing storage issues and the lack of space was becoming a problem.  When I heard that the Birmingham Wholesale Markets were moving out to Aston, I started studying the options for us to move to larger premises to sustain better opportunities for both the delivery of goods and their despatch.

We have a good rapport with our Relationship Director and he has a good understanding of our business.  Barclays was able to provide us with a quick decision and enable us to secure the property against other interested parties.  Our goal is to become the leader of oriental food supplies within the West Midlands.  We also work closely with the Birmingham City Council Employment and Skills Team, have hired some great, successful new staff and are looking to employ an additional 10 employees to cater for our expansion.”
