Sponsorship

Barclays has long seen the value of sponsorship as part of our business strategy.

Our sponsorships

  • Football

From the start of the 2019/20 season, Barclays became the first title sponsor of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Together with its sponsorship of the Premier League, where it extended its partnership as the Official Banking Partner until 2022, Barclays became the first brand to sponsor the leading English leagues in both men’s and women’s football. With the Premier League firmly established as the most popular league in men’s football worldwide, Barclays joined the FA as partner of the WSL on its journey to becoming the leading women’s league just a few years after turning fully professional.

Barclays also became lead partner of the FA Girls’ Football School Partnerships, an initiative to help girls at schools across England gain access to football, and all the physical, mental and skills based benefits that will bring. Through this partnership, Barclays has made a commitment to give girls in England equal access to football in schools by 2024.

  • Wimbledon

Game, set, match. From 2023 we are serving up an ace and becoming the Official Banking Partner of The Championships, Wimbledon.

This impactful partnership unites two iconic British institutions. The beginnings of this banking partnership date back to the 1960s, when Barclays built a sub-branch directly below Wimbledon’s Centre Court. A new chapter of the partnership now begins, with Barclays and Wimbledon joining forces to celebrate the very best of tennis, while continuing to create and champion opportunities for all.

As a direct build on our commitment to create a legacy, we’re also backing our partnership with support for the Wimbledon Foundation, the official charity of the Club and The Championships. Barclays will work closely with the Wimbledon Foundation to pursue their shared commitment of creating opportunities for more people to grow and thrive in their communities, using sport to achieve this.

  • The Donmar Warehouse

Barclays is an Associate Sponsor of the Donmar Warehouse – a 250 seat subsidised theatre in the heart of London's West End

The Donmar is a hot-house for talented new writers, for re-appraising European classics and for British and American drama and musical theatre.

The theatre has an international standing, garnering critical acclaim at home and abroad and with a particular reputation for artistic excellence, presenting some of London's most memorable theatrical experiences and showcasing the talents of some of the country's finest actors, writers, directors and designers.

  • Sadler’s Wells

Barclays is the Principal Supporting Partner of performing arts venue Sadler’s Wells. The partnership supports Sadler’s Wells’ ongoing mission to make and share dance that inspires us all by providing greater access to those who see dance as less accessible

Recognised as the world’s number one venue dedicated to supporting international dance, Sadler’s Wells believes that dance has the power to change lives. Barclays’ investment will establish a brand new young persons ticket scheme through which those aged 30 and under can access 10,000 tickets per year at £10 each, exposing a wide range of new audiences to ground-breaking work and world-class artists.

The partnership will also support over 650 young dancers, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, who benefit each year from workshops and projects run by the National Youth Dance Company (NYDC). The NYDC aims to create and perform innovative and influential dance, bringing together some of the brightest dance talent from across England to work with Sadler’s Wells’ internationally renowned Associate Artists and visiting companies. Since 2013 nearly 3,000 young people from across 18 UK towns and cities have taken part.

  • Barclays Center

In the heart of Brooklyn, at the crossroads of Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues, Barclays Center is setting a new standard as the stand out venue for the world’s most thrilling entertainment and sports events.

Developed by Brooklyn-based developer Forest City Ratner Companies and designed by the award-winning architectural firms AECOM and SHoP Architects, Barclays Center serves as the state-of-the-art home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, boasts one of the most intimate seating configurations ever designed for a modern multi-purpose arena, and is a model for sustainable design and construction.

Unparalleled sightlines for 17,732 welcome basketball fans to the action and audiences of up to 18,000 can be accommodated for musical or other performances. Professional hockey will soon be part of Barclays Center’s line-up when the New York Islanders move to the borough in 2015.

Since its opening on September 28, 2012 with the first of eight consecutive sold out shows by JAY Z, Barclays Center has continued to host the world’s most renown performers, including Barbra Streisand, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Andrea Bocelli, Dave Matthews Band, Bruno Mars and Coldplay all topping the bill.

Barclays Center has become both a critical and commercial success, helping Barclays further establish its brand in New York and across the wider United States. The Center was named 2012 Pollstar Award Best New Major Concert Venue and 2013 Sports Business Awards Sports Facility of the Year whilst Billboard and Venues Today magazines, ranked Barclays Center as the top-grossing U.S. venue for concerts and family shows and the top-seller of tickets in their 2013 report.

Whilst its huge popularity has made it in to a top venue, it was equally important that it was recognised for its positive impact on the communities where it is based and the achievement of Architizer A+ Building of the Year Award, LEED® Silver Certification for New Construction from the U.S. Green Building Congress and Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Brooklyn Building Award for Economic Development were seen as a essential to its long-term success.

The unparalleled lineup of sport and entertainment icons, its excellent viewing for fans, great hospitality as well as its high regard in the local community and amongst critics mean standards run high in Brooklyn. Good thing, because Barclays Center continues to raise the bar.
