The footballer is taking part in a film by news provider ITN highlighting the site’s contribution to the local community.
The location was chosen to highlight the Barclays Spaces for Sports programme and is one of 200 such sustainable sports sites across the UK.
Following a £600,000 cash injection from Barclays and the UK Football Foundation, a new sports ‘barn’ was built for the Old Trafford community in Manchester, North West England.
The facilities, which are near Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, provide a range of activities determined by local residents, including football, badminton, netball, basketball, dance, volleyball and indoor cricket.
Launched in September 2006, it was the 100th Barclays Spaces for Sports site to open. Ryan Giggs was joined at the opening by then Prime Minister Tony Blair and a number of sporting celebrities.
