The event, organised by financial publishing company VRL, recognises excellence and innovation in the card industry across the continent.
Barclaycard Freedom, a scheme which offers UK customers immediate rewards and eliminates the need to collect vouchers and calculate points, was named Best Innovation in a Loyalty Programme. Barclaycard Freedom was automatically made available to eight million Barclaycard holders at its launch on 17 March. More than 30,000 retailers of all sizes were invited to be partners in the scheme.
In addition, Barclaycard Commercial won in the category of Best Commercial Credit Card Issuer. The accolade also recognises Barclaycard Commercial’s Visa CodeSure card, which incorporates a keypad, LCD screen and a three-year battery into a standard payment card. The LCD screen can generate eight-digit codes, increasing the security of transactions when cards are not present, such as over the internet.
Sarah Alspach, Marketing Director of Barclaycard Freedom, said: “These two awards demonstrate our investment in innovation, and our commitment to developing card technology across the board for the benefit of our customers.
“At Barclaycard, we are committed to improving products and services for businesses and consumers alike, and are thrilled to have been recognised with these awards.”
