Barclays today announces that it has agreed a two-year deal to become the exclusive financial services sponsor of Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club, a football club based in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The team is currently top of the table in the UAE Football League, after finishing second last season.
As part of the sponsorship, Barclays will benefit from hospitality and marketing opportunities, including branding the two towers at Al Jazira's Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, which are to be renamed the ‘Barclays Towers’.
John Vitalo, CEO of Barclays Middle East and North Africa, said: “This sponsorship is a tangible demonstration to our clients that Barclays continues to be fully committed to the UAE and the region.
“It allows us to partner with one of the premier clubs, and provides excellent branding and hospitality opportunities for clients that will help us achieve our business goals.
“The deal is in line with our sponsorship of the Barclays Premier League, the best-known and most popular domestic football league in the world, and hugely popular in the UAE.”
Sultan Abu Sultan, Chairman, Barclays UAE, added: “Barclays has been operating in the UAE region for 35 years and our sponsorship with Al Jazira is a new and fresh way to engage our customers and further raise awareness of our brand.
“Barclays has a long history of sponsorships, and we are looking forward to an excellent partnership as the season progresses.”
Phil Anderton, Chief Executive Officer of Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club, concluded: “This new partnership with Barclays strengthens further our ability to compete at the highest level and to take a leading role within our community.
“We could look for no better partner than Barclays to compliment our existing roster of prestigious partners.”
