Barclays has become the founding sponsor of the Qatar Finance and Business Academy (QFBA).
The initiative aims to create a world-class research institute to support the development of the Gulf state as a leading financial centre.
As part of the five-year agreement with the Qatar Financial Centre Authority, which oversees the development of the academy, Barclays will fund research and learning on topics such as financial markets, banking and investment products, management, succession planning, customer services, and building financial businesses.
The QFBA will develop programmes focusing on these issues in the next five years.
John Vitalo, Chief Executive Officer, Barclays, Middle East and North Africa, said: "This agreement reflects our continued commitment to the State of Qatar and the region.
"We are very excited about this collaboration which is a testimony of the importance of education and learning to both the State of Qatar and our institution."
Abdulrahman Ahmad Al-Shaibi, Managing Director and Board Member of the Qatar Financial Centre Authority, added: "We are delighted to work with Barclays on developing financial education and learning in the State of Qatar.
"Importantly, our educational partnership programme with one of the world's leading financial services providers gives the QFBA direct access to real world business experiences as well as the topical issues that are present in today's financial markets."
John Morton, Director at QFBA, concluded: "We believe that the combination of QFBA's passion for innovative learning and pragmatic research will complement Barclays contribution to the financial services industry in Qatar and the region."
