Barclaycard Germany today hosts the 2010 Community Gift Awards.
The event, which takes place in Hamburg, aims to recognise the contribution of charities to the local community.
As part of the initiative, Barclays will donate €30,000 (approximately £25,900) to nine charities.
Some of the organisations that will benefit from the donation are:
- Fördergemeinschaft Kinderkrebs-Zentrum Hamburg, a charity supporting families with children suffering from cancer
- Ehlderding Stiftung, a charity supporting children from difficult family situations
- Malteser Hilfdienst, a charity supporting homeless people
- Tura Harksheide, a sports charity supporting children from disadvantaged families.
More than 300 charities applied for a share of the donation.
A jury consisting of representatives from Barclaycard Germany, media partner Alster radio and three local charities assessed the applications and selected a shortlist of 20 projects.
The charities benefiting from the donation were voted for by listeners of Alster radio.
Barclaycard Germany’s 2010 Community Gift Awards is part of Looking after Local Communities, a community investment programme in which Barclays invests in the neighbourhoods, towns, cities and countries around the world where it operates.
