Barclaycard has supported the UK’s Citizens Advice Bureau in developing a guide with 10 top tips for keeping spending under control over the Christmas period.
The guide aims to increase awareness around budgeting and promote sensible borrowing.
Some of the themes covered in the guide include planning early for Christmas, budgeting for everyday bills, shopping around to find the best prices, and reading the small print in any credit agreement.
Gillian Guy, Chief Executive, Citizens Advice Bureau, said: “Christmas is a time of giving and it’s all too easy to overspend.
“There are enticing offers and pressures to buy and it can be tempting to ignore how much you are spending, but this may lead to problems in the New Year.
“Planning, budgeting and organisation are key to avoid getting into debt at Christmas and beyond. This is why we are issuing a Top tips for Christmas leaflet in association with Barclaycard.”
The guides are available online from Barclaycard and the Citizens Advice Bureau, which helps people resolve their legal and financial problems by providing free and independent advice, and by influencing policymakers.
Barclaycard’s support for the spending guide is part of Banking on Brighter Futures, Barclays flagship community investment programme which focuses on improving entrepreneurial and work skills and enhancing financial inclusion in marginalised communities worldwide.
