The Barclaycard Freedom reward programme has won two awards at the 2011 European Card Acquiring Forum.
The accolades in the categories of Loyalty and Information were presented at a ceremony in Berlin, Germany.
Commenting on the Loyalty award, judges said: “Reward programmes must be straightforward and simple to use.
“The Barclaycard Freedom scheme does not require customers to collect and save vouchers and coupons, or carry an additional loyalty card to benefit from the scheme. This is appreciated by the customer, who uses the card, and therefore increases sales volumes at participating merchants.”
On the Information award, judges said: “The technology solution enables loyalty programme providers to run real-time marketing and loyalty programmes and to reward customers instantly at the point of sale.”
Both awards underline the success of Barclaycard’s partnership with Welcome Real-time, a company which provides the technology behind the scheme.
Andy Simmonds, Head of Commercial Management, Global Payment Acceptance at Barclaycard, received the awards and said: “This is tremendous industry recognition for truly innovative programmes that reinforce Barclaycard’s position as a leader in the market.
“Congratulations to everyone that has been instrumental in driving these initiatives, which have been recognised by our industry peers.”
Barclaycard Freedom was also shortlisted in the Usage category.
The scheme offers UK customers immediate rewards, eliminating the need to collect vouchers and calculate points.
Cardholders earn Reward Money when making purchases with their Barclaycard at participating retailers, which can then be redeemed on future purchases at participating retailers.
Barclaycard SmartPay, a cross-border payment processing system for e-commerce customers, was also shortlisted in the Channel category.
