Barclays-sponsored Phil Mickelson won for the 39th time in his professional career by convincingly winning the Shell Houston Open yesterday.
After coming into the weekend at 4 under par, Phil rose to the top of the leader board on Saturday while tying the course record with a 9 under 63.
He did not let up on Sunday when he shot a 7 under 65, eventually winning the tournament by three strokes with an overall score of 20 under par.
This was Phil’s first win since the 2010 Masters.
Phil prepares to defend his title at the Masters this week in Augusta, Georgia in the United States.
He currently owns three green jackets from Augusta and is looking forward to competing for his fourth.
As a result of this win, Phil has risen to number three in the Official World Golf Rankings, surpassing Tiger Woods for the first time since 1997.
He has also captured the number two spot in the 2011 FedExCup standings.
The Barclays golf tournament in August represents the first tournament in the FedExCup Playoffs.
As one of his main sponsors, Phil’s success and high profile continues to bring extensive brand exposure for Barclays.
Along with other PGA TOUR tournaments throughout the year, Phil will also participate in the Barclays Scottish Open between 7 and 10 July, The Barclays from 25 to 28 August, and the Barclays Singapore Open from 10 to 13 November.
