Barclays Cycle Hire has won at two awards ceremonies, as the number of journeys made on the scheme since last July’s launch passes the four million mark.
The London Transport Awards, organised in association with Transport Times magazine, saw 500 industry representatives gather to recognise initiatives making a real difference to transport across London.
Barclays Cycle Hire took the honours in the Most Innovative Transport Project of the Year category, with judges acknowledging that “the ambitious and complex scheme was impressively brought to fruition with very few teething problems”.
They also noted that 30 per cent of users switched from road or rail travel.
In addition, Barclays and the Mayor of London were jointly presented with the accolade for Most Outstanding Contribution to London at the Annual Property Awards Lunch.
The event, organised in support of the Variety Club Children’s Charity, recognises excellence in the property industry.
It has since raised more than £6.5m for the charity since its launch in 1992.
