Barclays Wealth today launches the 13th volume of its Wealth Insights series, entitled Risk and Rules: The Role of Control in Financial Decision-Making.

To compile the report, more than 2,000 wealthy individuals from around the world took part in a survey conducted by Barclays Wealth in partnership with consultancy Ledbury Research.

Entrepreneurs, academics and other experts have also provided their views on the survey results.

The report seeks to understand ‘investment personalities’ and how they influence financial decision-making.

It also explores the rules and strategies individuals use to manage their behaviour when making investment decisions.

The research found that nearly half of the high net-worth participants acknowledged they wanted greater self-control over their investment decisions.

Older investors were characterised by a calm, accepting approach to financial management, while those with greater income and wealth were found to have higher tolerance for risk.
