Barclays has extended its title sponsorship of The Barclays golf tournament through 2016.
The Barclays is the first tournament in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the US$10m FedExCup each year.
This year’s tournament will be held from 23 to 28 August at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey.
In addition, Barclays, the PGA TOUR and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation have reached an agreement to host The Barclays at Bethpage State Park’s Black Course in 2012 and 2016.
Bethpage Black, in Old Bethpage, New York, became the first publicly owned and operated course to host the US Open in 2002.
It joins Plainfield Country Club, Liberty National and Ridgewood Country Club as host venues for The Barclays for the length of Barclays title extension.
The course rotation is as follows:
- 2012 – Bethpage State Park’s Black Course, Old Bethpage, New York
- 2013 – Liberty National, Jersey City, New Jersey
- 2014 – Ridgewood Country Club, Paramus, New Jersey
- 2015 – Plainfield Country Club, Edison, New Jersey
- 2016 – Bethpage State Park’s Black Course, Old Bethpage, New York.
Chief Executive Bob Diamond said: “We are thrilled to extend our sponsorship of The Barclays and to continue our successful partnership with the PGA TOUR.
“Just as Barclays presence has grown in North America over the past several years, so has this tournament, bringing economic benefits to the local communities and raising millions of dollars for local charities.
“To bring The Barclays to Bethpage Black for the first time, and to return to Liberty National, Ridgewood, and Plainfield over the next five years guarantees world-class venues and competition for golf fans in the Tri-State area.”
