The 2011 Barclays Scottish Open tees off today at Castle Stuart Golf Links course in Inverness.
Phil Mickelson, four-time Major winner and Barclays ambassador, is among five of the top seven players in the world taking part in the tournament.
Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, the world’s number one and two, will continue their healthy rivalry, alongside former US Open champion and world number five Graeme McDowell, and world number seven Matt Kuchar.
Also competing is defending champion Edoardo Molinari, three-time major championship winner Padraig Harrington, and Scottish talents Martin Laird and Paul Lawrie.
The prize fund for the 2011 Barclays Scottish Open remains at £3m, and players will have to conquer a new golf course to claim the first prize of £500,000.
Since opening in 2009, Castle Stuart Links has received worldwide praise for its challenging layout and visually stunning location in the Highlands, alongside the Moray Firth.
The tournament will be broadcast live on television, including Sky Sports on 7 and 8 July, BBC television on 9 and 10 July, and the Golf Channel.
This is the 10th year Barclays has participated as title sponsor, continuing the firm’s involvement with the European Tour. This commitment also extends to its title sponsorship of the Barclays Singapore Open at Sentosa Golf Club, a co-sanctioned event with the Asian Tour. The firm is also title sponsor of The Barclays golf tournament in the US.
