Barclaycard and mobile phone services provider Orange have launched the second Quick Tap handset for UK customers.
The Samsung Wave 578 is now available exclusively from Orange, and comes after the introduction of the Samsung Tocco Quick Tap earlier this year.
Customers can make purchases of £15 by simply tapping their Quick Tap mobile handset against a contactless reader at over 50,000 stories, including Pret A Manger, EAT., Subway and McDonald’s.
The Samsung Wave 578 is a sleek 3G smartphone which uses the Samsung Bada operating system, offering customers all the features they expect from smartphones today.
Dave Chan, CEO, Barclaycard Consumer Europe, said: “Paying with a mobile phone is the start of a revolution in digital payments. That’s why I want it to be made available to as many of our customers as possible.
“At the launch of our first contactless handset earlier this year we promised we would roll out greater choice in the Quick Tap range and I’m pleased to be able to announce the first of these new handsets today.”
Barclaycard launched credit cards in the UK over 40 years ago and have since been leading the evolution of payments.
Barclaycard, Barclays debit card and Orange Credit Card users can transfer funds of up to £100 simple and securely into their contactless mobile payment account, after which the phone is ready to make payments of £15 and under in a single transaction.
A user-friendly Barclaycard payment application, which sits on the phone’s home screen, contains information such as electronic statements detailing mobile contactless purchases, enabling customers to keep an eye on their spending and manage their finances on the go.
