Barclays Chief Executive Bob Diamond is today delivering the first ever BBC Today Programme Business Lecture.
The event is part of a new series of annual lectures launched by BBC Radio 4, which will feature business leaders and other prominent figures speaking about current issues facing the business world.
Bob will address an invited audience this evening at the new BBC Broadcasting House in London.
He will discuss the topic of ‘Citizenship and Growth’.
There will be introductory remarks from Today presenter John Humphrys, who will also interview Bob for the Today programme to be broadcast tomorrow.
Accepting the invitation from the BBC to deliver the lecture, Bob said in August: “I am honoured and delighted to have been invited to deliver the inaugural BBC Today Programme Business Lecture.
“I think this is an important initiative from the BBC which demonstrates a bold commitment to providing a forum for business leaders to address the issues of the day and should in turn improve the dialogue between the business world and wider society.”
Ceri Thomas, Editor of the Today programme at the BBC, added in August: “I am delighted that Bob Diamond has agreed to give the inaugural BBC Today Programme Business Lecture. The BBC already has a proud tradition of hosting the Reith and Dimbleby Lectures, and I hope that this too will become an important fixture not just in the BBC calendar but for the business world as well.”
