Barclaycard has launched two new payment terminals to its Global Payment Acceptance product range, using Internet Protocol (IP) and GPRS technology.

The terminal using IP technology is something customers have been asking for. In today’s world, where time is at a premium, the terminal will help speed up transactions at retail stores across the UK, reducing the average time taken by 15 seconds. This will make it quicker for business to take payments, reducing queues and giving their customers a better experience.

More than one terminal can be plugged into the same broadband line at the same time, and no dedicated phone line is required.

Over 2,000 terminals have been issued to customers such as sandwich chain Subway, travel operator TUI and Chelsea Football Club.

The mobile terminal using GPRS technology can be used to take payments almost anywhere. It uses a SIM card to access mobile networks from O2, Orange and Vodafone.

The terminal is targeted at small businesses on the move, such as plumbers, electricians and taxi companies, reducing their need to carry cash.

Over 2,000 of them are already roaming around The O2 entertainment arena in London. Customers such as restaurants Bella Italia and Café Rouge are also using the GPRS mobile terminals.
