As title sponsor of the Barclays Premier League, Barclays is challenging top-flight football pundits, players and managers to ‘give 110 per cent’ and use as many football clichés as possible to help raise funds for Sport Relief.
The top football clichés were whittled down to a favourite five in a poll of 850,000 followers on the Barclays Football Facebook page:
- It's a six-pointer
- Football is a funny old game
- A game of two halves
- They've parked the bus
- At the end of the day.
A total of £100,000 could be raised for Sport Relief if these clichés are mentioned 25 times on BBC football broadcasts over the weekend.
The funds raised will go towards projects in Africa that support entrepreneurs and small-business owners by providing training on business and financial skills.
Fans can get involved with the Barclays Cash for Clichés campaign by watching and listening to the Barclays Premier League on the BBC this weekend to spot their favourite football clichés on air.
