The organisation received top honours in three categories at the 2012 SC Magazine Awards Europe: Information Security Project, Team and Person of the Year.
The accolade for Information Security Project of the Year recognises the Information Risk Management team's Faking It campaign, which raised awareness of the issue of telephone phishing attacks, through which fraudsters target contact centre employees in order to obtain data about customers.
The IRM team visited contact centres in the UK to film and produce a series of informative and entertaining videos featuring 120 contact centre agents who showed off their acting skills, playing out scenarios of fraudsters impersonating customers.
The campaign helped to change behaviours among contact centre employees, putting them on alert about the issue and ensuring they refer suspicious calls to the Fraud team.
The award for Information Security Team of the Year went to Barclaycard's Global Payment Acceptance Payment Security team.
The team was acknowledged for their initiatives to raise awareness of information security best practice and compliance among their 100,000-strong portfolio of merchants, including corporate clients and SMEs, together with an ongoing education programme for colleagues on protecting customers and Barclays against card fraud.
This is the first time the award has been won by the same team two years in a row.
Neira Jones, Barclaycard Head of Payment Security, won in the Information Security Person of the Year category.
Neira was recognised for her outstanding contribution to the payment security sector.
SC Magazine bills itself as a publication for information security professionals, and the awards are considered by many as the most coveted and prestigious in the European information security industry.
