The Barclays team receives the Overseas Project award

Barclays has won at the Business Charity Awards, an annual event organised by Third Sector magazine to recognise UK businesses for their contribution to charitable causes.

It won in the categories of CSR Team, Employee Engagement and Overseas Project.

The CSR Team accolade recognises Barclays for successfully increasing its charitable or socially responsible activities.

Barclays received the Employee Engagement award for adopting policies that have resulted in a significant increase in its employees’ charitable donations and activities.

The third award for Overseas Project recognises Barclays programme. The partnership with charities CARE International and Plan UK empowers disadvantaged people in 11 countries around the world by enabling them to form groups to pool their savings, and make small loans available to fellow members.

Geoffrey Dennis, Chief Executive at CARE International UK, added: “We’re thrilled at this recognition for Banking on Change.

“I’ve seen first-hand the transformative impact that this work can have in giving a hand up to some of the world’s poorest people and getting them on the pathway to finding their own route out of poverty. It is a truly innovative partnership and it is this that allows us to operate at scale and have a transformative impact on the lives of 400,000 people across Africa, Asia and South America by enabling them to save today for a more sustainable future.”

Barclays was also shortlisted in the category of Charity Partnership: Financial and Professional.
