The event pits US Major League Soccer team New York Red Bulls against Barclays Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

It kicks off at 19:00 (US East Coast time) on Tuesday, 31 July, at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.

“We are delighted to be sponsoring the Barclays New York Cup between Tottenham Hotspur of the Barclays Premier League and the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer,” said Gerard LaRocca, Chief Administrative Officer, Americas, Barclays. “As a long-term partner of soccer, and a sponsor of a 2010 tournament at Red Bull Arena with both of these teams, it is a real pleasure to be involved in bringing two of the best teams from both sides of the Atlantic together once again.”

Chris Heck, President of Business Operations at Red Bull, offered his thoughts on working with Barclays and sportswear retailer Under Armour, a presenting sponsor of the event: “We are excited to welcome Barclays and Under Armour, two great global brands in their respective categories as partners in this international event at Red Bull Arena. Barclays commitment to global soccer is certainly tangible in their long-time title sponsorship of the Barclays Premier League.”

As well as extensive marketing and hospitality rights for Barclays, the sponsorship also includes 1,000 match tickets which will be used for community groups in the New York City area and for local employees.

The Barclays New York Cup will be broadcast live on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and ESPN3 in the US; ESPN UK; and in selected European countries. It will also be shown taped-delayed on MSG Networks in the US from 1 August.

The two teams met once at the Red Bull Arena in July 2010 as part of the Barclays New York Challenge. Tottenham won 2-1 with goals from Robbie Keane and Gareth Bale. New York forward and former Arsenal star Thierry Henry made his Red Bulls debut in that match and scored in the first half.
