Barclays Cycle Hire has seen record numbers of users as it celebrates its second anniversary this week.
A total of 45,748 people used the scheme on 23 July – the highest so far for a single day.
Since launching in July 2010, over 14 million journeys have been made using Barclays Cycle Hire bikes.
The scheme provides the public in London with an affordable, sustainable and environmentally friendly mode of transport.
By helping to improve transport capacity, Barclays Cycle Hire also helps the UK capital stay active and attract investment and jobs.
Residents and visitors to London can use Barclays Cycle Hire 24 hours a day, all year round. There is no need to sign up – simply take a bike from a docking station, after paying with a credit or debit card.
The free Barclays Bikes smartphone app has had over 100,000 downloads since it launched.
It has recently been improved to make it the easiest and safest way for users to plan a journey or find a space to dock a Barclays Cycle Hire bike.
The app is available for iPhone and Android devices.
