Antony Jenkins will take over from the current Chairman Mark Price, Managing Director of Waitrose, who will remain in-post until December 2014.
His appointment continues Barclays’ long-standing history with Business in the Community, which has seen senior leaders work with the organisation.
Commenting on the appointment, Antony said:
“In the UK and abroad, we face many challenges over the coming years: Economic, political and environmental. Many of these challenges need long-term solutions – when so often we feel the pressure to deliver to short-term fixes. Business in the Community has always taken a longer-term wide reaching view of the role of business in society. I am proud to have been invited to take up this position and I look forward to working with the BITC Board and members to celebrate and encourage business’ leadership role in meeting and delivering on the challenges of today.”
Prior to taking on the Chairman role, Antony will first join the BITC Board, a 20-strong group of senior business leaders from across industry sectors who together shape the charity's mission and strategy. Antony will be formally appointed to the BITC Board in the in April 2014.
