Talking entrepreneurship across the UK

Parsys 2

Britain’s entrepreneurship story is blossoming well beyond London and the South East according to a Barclays report, Start me up: Creating Britain’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, published in June 2014.

To find out more about the experiences of entrepreneurs across the UK, Barclays is currently mid-way through a series of convened panel discussions visiting Cambridge, Bristol, Newcastle and Manchester.

Cambridge

The world renowned university town is a growing hotspot for British entrepreneurs. But are British entrepreneurs selling out too soon? The real question, according to panellist Stew McTavish, ideaSpace Director at the University of Cambridge, is “too soon for whom?”

Watch a highlights video of the Cambridge discussion facilitated by Jenny Chapman, Business Editor, Cambridge News with panellists Richard Phelps, Managing Director, Head of Barclays Corporate and Employer Solutions; Roger Gorman, CEO of Profinda and David Porter, owner of the creative design agency David Porter & Associates Limited.

Bristol

Bristol’s Engine Shed, housed in Brunel’s original station dating back to 1841, harks back to the industrial revolution. Today it is a hub where entrepreneurs, business leaders, academics, students and corporates can collaborate. But is this enough? Is Bristol ready for the next industrial revolution? This was the question posed to the panel at the second of our regional panel discussions.

Watch a highlights video of the Bristol discussion facilitated by Sue Hayes, Managing Director, Barclays Corporate Banking and chaired by Phil Smith, Managing Director, Business West. Panellists included Nick Sturge, Centre Director at the Bristol SETsquared Centre and Director at Engine Shed; Flo Broughton, Co-founder of Choc on Choc; Dylan Jones-Evans OBE, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the Bristol Business School, part of the University of the West of England (UWE) and Stephen Williams MP, Bristol West.

Further UK regional panel discussions are scheduled to take place in Newcastle and Manchester at the end of November.
