Barclays chairman, Sir David Walker

Barclays chairman Sir David Walker was the keynote speaker at an event held by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

At the workshop on ‘reforming culture and behaviour in the financial services industry’ Sir David talked about how to rebuild the trust in banks and the banking industry as a whole.

He talked about how “great progress had been made since the crisis in strengthening the robustness of individual banks and of the whole system.”

Talking about changed environment of banking regulation he said: “the regulator can play a constructive role in the development and embedding of a positive culture in a bank.”

On building trust in banks he said it was critical that “development of a sustainable culture within a bank is clear articulation by the board of the purposes and values to which it commits, alongside a business strategy and operating model consistent with them.”
