Singapore saw the largest ever attendance at a Barclays Asia Trophy football tournament at the finals on Saturday.
There were 52,100 fans in the National Stadium on Saturday night to witness Arsenal take the trophy, making it the biggest single match day attendance in the history of the tournament. The largest crowd previously was 49,700 in Bangkok, Thailand in 2005.
The Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore also set the largest attendance over two match days as 82,000 came to watch, beating Hong Kong’s attendance of 76,300 in 2007. Fans from Singapore and across the region came to enjoy Arsenal, Everton, Stoke City and a Singapore Select XI battle it out.
It kicked off with Barclays Singapore Country Head Li Li Kuan giving the opening address at the tournament welcome reception to the managers of all four clubs and their star players.
Meanwhile, a wide variety of Barclays initiated activities took place outside of the tournament, including client, school, hospital and charity visits with the Barclays Premier League trophy and Barclays Ambassador for the event, former England footballer Ian Wright.
