In 2015, Barclays became a founding member of the United Nations (UN) campaign for women, HeForShe. Supporting HeForShe is a tangible demonstration of the depth of our commitment to increasing gender equality and will enable the organisation to leverage its global footprint to enhance awareness of it.

Barclays is one of 10 corporate organisations, and the only financial services institution, to be invited by the UN to be a HeForShe ‘IMPACT 10x10x10 Champion’. IMPACT 10x10x10 engages key decision makers in governments, corporations, and universities around the world to drive change from the top. IMPACT Champions make gender equality an institutional priority by developing three bold, game-changing commitments.

Barclays’ three HeForShe commitments are:
  • Increase representation of women in senior leadership by a percentage point a year.
  • Embed gender equality in the culture, processes and policies of Barclays.
  • Reach 2.5 million women around the world with financial inclusion programmes.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2016, Barclays CEO Jes Staley personally pledged his support to implementing these three goals and committed to invest the appropriate resources and skills to achieve them.

Colleagues from across the business have also pledged their support to the campaign, with 3,741 Champions signed up by March 2016. Through this commitment colleagues will become mentors, volunteer their time for female-focused charities, and have agreed to foster and engage diverse talent within their teams.
